THINGS YOU CAN DO AT HOME IN A QUARANTINE PERIOD

THE BEST THING WE CAN CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FRONT LINERS IS TO STAY AT HOME AND PROTECT OUR OWN FAMILY FROM THE PANDEMIC VIRUS.

As of March 16, 2020, The President of the Philippines declared the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine -(Philstar.com)

Due to the pandemic crisis, there are lot of Filipinos who are struggling to make a living due to the enhanced community quarantine. Establishments are closed including the malls, churches, and work offices but grocery stores and banks are continuously operational. People are required to stay at home and only 1 family member is allowed to buy the necessities such as medicines and foods. Due to this restriction, people are stuck at their homes probably in their TV or mobile devices.

You may be wondering what to do at home other than surfing through Facebook. I have listed some of the activities you can do at home even without an internet.

1. Create Art

This may seems broad but in this time of period, we are all depending in art. Various art forms to distract us from all the chaos happening in the world. We are all entertained from doing different art activities such as drawing, painting, writing, dancing, singing, etc. With that being said, I would like to pay tribute to the artists who are still up to this day, believed in the power of art expressions.

2. Read a book

You may have an old book lying inside your home and may forgot about it since you didn’t have time to read one. Then this is the time to savor all the good stuffs from great stories. You can also read magazines aside from novels. There are lots of websites and apps offering readable books for free and you could also avail e-book online. There are lots of Instagram accounts offering affordable e-book not more than 50 pesos.

I used to read a lot before and I love Nicholas Sparks’ books, but then I really had a hard time catching up so I stop reading for a while. But I still have some stock novel books that I haven’t finished yet such as The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani and The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin.

3. Write a letter/journal.

If you are also fond of collecting aesthetic notebooks and/or journals but still don’t know what to do with them, then try writing up a daily journal. They are lot journaling ideas to discover. Such as: photo journal, reflection journal, express gratitude, recall your dreams, overcoming your fears, or just write one sentence each day.

4. Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Crafts

You could start with revamping your old clothes, there are lot of video tutorials on Youtube wherein you can create another style for your old clothes. You may want to watch Nava Rose, Fashion Wizardry, The Line Up, bestdressed, and/or withwendy on Youtube. Aside from that, you could also look for DIY Crafts at Buzzfeed videos. You could also enjoy painting your old sneakers/shoes.

5. Do an indoor photoshoot

You can ask for assistance from your family to get you great photos or you can just setup your tripod and do a self-timer photos. It can be in your garden, bathroom, room, or just in a wall. Be creative and express yourself in your own photos.

6. Create short film/vlog

It doesn’t need to be posted on your social media accounts. If you have been wondering to explore the film creativity, you can start with filming montages on your daily routine inside the house. If you’re familiar with korean aesthetic daily routine, they have bunch of videos on Youtube where in you can get your ideas from. I recommend you to check Haegreendal, Soony Sun, Sueddu on Youtube.

You could also do silly videos with your family. Try doing a makeup challenge or just an informative video of proper way of washing hands.

7. Do a General Cleaning inside your house

Basically clean your entire house, this includes changing your bedsheets, curtains, dusting off all the dirty corners. You could also do a room makeover.

8. Pamper yourself/ Do a DIY Facial

Start with your morning and night skincare routine. Do these with all of your family members for added value and fun. You could also create DIY Face Masks or DIY Skincare using food ingredients.

9. Cook/Bake a recipe

If you’re also a midnight snacker and wouldn’t want to finish all the stocks of food, you can try to research/watch some great alternative recipes to make you full and healthy at the same time. You could also bake 3-ingredient cupcakes or easy no bake cookies. Try to do a healthy smoothie too rich in vitamin C to keep your immune system stronger.

Here are some other activities that you could try at home:

- Do an indoor Exercise/Workout.

- Karaoke/Jamming

- Clean your Makeup Brushes

- Print Photographs

- Write a song/poem

- Do your own nails

- Create a DIY Mask/Sanitizer

Keep in mind that we should still consider other communities especially the homeless Filipinos who are most affected in this situation. Let’s pray for the strength of our frontliners and volunteers who are selflessly helping and united in this crisis. We should also take this opportunity to voice out our clarifications and concerns in the local and head government to make a better regulation in process of keeping the virus controllable. To make a quick response especially to those individuals who are in need of medical assistance, food and other necessities. We are all Filipinos and through our unity, compassion and faith, we will surpass this outbreak.

If you are able to continue reading until here, you may want to consider donating in the following COVID-19 donation drives. The collected monetary donations will contribute to producing food donations for Filipino communities and medical equipments for our frontliners:

Once again, let us all be grateful and appreciate all the hardships that the frontliners are going through at this moment. Let us also pray for all those people who passed away due to the COVID-19 outbreak and those medical doctors who risked their lives to help our victims. Let’s hope and pray for a better world.
